As many saxophonists know, the key mechanism used on Yanagisawa saxophones is one of the best and most reliable in the world. The SC992 curved soprano is no exception to this as the C# and Bb keys feature rocking table mechanisms that allow for enhanced speed between the different pitches. The underslung octave mechanism featured on the SC992 is considered to have a quicker and more responsive action. This style of octave key is only found on premium saxophones from Yanagisawa. To help prevent the octave key mechanism from getting sticky, Yanagisawa coat the system in flouroresin which is a non-stick coating. All of the centre arms on the SC992 use special pointed pivot screws which maintain the precision of the arms. As a standard for all Yanagisawa saxophones, the SC992 uses blue steel springs for enhanced key action.
The SC992 curved soprano saxophone is filled with premium design features that Yanagisawa is famous for. Around the soprano saxophone, there are indented white shell keys for comfortable playing. Not only do they enhance the beauty of the instrument, but they also prevent the musician's fingers from slipping during virtuosic passages. Around the back of the SC992 are two metal thumb rests which match the style of the saxophone. Like other saxophones from Yanagisawa, the right-hand thumb hook can be adjusted so the performer can find the perfect fit. The body, bow and neck of the SC992 is made from bronze so a much warmer sound can be produced compared to brass. All of the pads on the SC992 are air-tight and waterproof which supports stability when playing while also extending the pad's life. Once the SC992 has been constructed a layer of clear lacquer is applied to the saxophone to keep the instrument looking amazing. As a standard for all Yanagisawa saxophones, the SC992 is hand engraved with a beautiful pattern by a highly skilled craftsperson.
