About the Drummer
Waltteri Väyrynen is the pinnacle of modern progressive drumming. The drummer for Opeth, Waltteri brings power, precision, plus years of international touring and studio experience to Addictive Drums 2. Combining technical control with an unmistakably heavy, musical feel, his playing moves effortlessly from detailed progressive passages to full-force metal aggression. Beyond Opeth, Waltteri has also played with Paradise Lost, Abhorrence, Bodom After Midnight, Bloodbath, and Carcass.
Captured in a world-class live room
Recorded at Soundtrade Studios in Stockholm by producer David Castillo, Progressive Metal captures the depth and control of a purpose-built drum recording environment. The large live room’s near seven-metre ceiling height adds natural space and dynamic range while maintaining tight low-end focus. Careful microphone placement preserves the character of every shell and cymbal in detail, helping the kit respond naturally across different velocities and playing styles. Veteran drum technician Urban Näsvell also tuned every drum before recording, ensuring consistent tone and response throughout the entire library. The result is a production-ready ADpak with clarity, punch, and realistic room ambience straight out of the box.
Natural double kick realism
Progressive Metal includes Addictive Drums 2’s Alternating kick feature, designed specifically for fast, intricate double kick performances. Instead of triggering identical samples repeatedly, the engine alternates playback between Waltteri’s slightly differently tuned 22” kick drums for a more organic and realistic feel. Rapid-fire patterns retain clarity and punch without sounding mechanical, even in dense modern metal mixes. The Pearl Reference Pure shells provide focused low-end weight alongside excellent articulation, helping complex phrasing and quick subdivisions stay defined. If you regularly programme demanding metal parts, this feature makes detailed MIDI performances sound noticeably more natural with minimal editing.
