Five engines give every riff a different starting point
Riffer 4 uses five purpose-built generation engines rather than relying on a single randomisation process. Each engine focuses on a different musical character, giving you dedicated starting points for hypnotic sequences, memorable hooks, guitar-inspired movement, animated arpeggios, and weighty basslines. This makes it easier to generate material that suits the role you need to fill instead of repeatedly reshaping the same type of pattern. Once you have an idea, you can edit, combine, and transform it further. It’s a practical way to break through an empty piano roll while keeping plenty of control over where the resulting MIDI goes next.
Shape generated MIDI around your track
Generation is only the starting point. Riffer 4 lets you define the key and scale before adjusting note range, density, timing, feel, and other MIDI parameters to fit your track. Sequences can contain between two and 64 steps, while up to 54 scales provide a broad framework for experimenting with different melodic ideas. Pitch, duration, velocity, and note density can all contribute to each generated phrase, and individual notes remain editable afterwards. So, instead of accepting a random pattern as-is, you can use it as raw material, fine-tuning promising ideas until they sit naturally alongside the rest of your production.
Move ideas straight into your wider setup
When a generated sequence catches your ear, Riffer 4 makes it easy to carry that idea into the rest of your workflow. MIDI can be exported for use with virtual instruments and saved for future projects, letting you build a useful collection of phrases to revisit whenever you need another starting point. Riffer also supports MIDI-enabled hardware, with advanced mapping and CC options for integrating external instruments. This gives hybrid setups a flexible link between digital sequencing and hardware sound generation. You can create and refine a pattern inside Riffer, then use that MIDI to drive the software or hardware instrument that best suits the track.
Keep patterns evolving while you perform
Riffer 4 can generate more than a single static phrase. Its infinity function creates a new pattern on every loop, allowing sequences to keep changing as your track runs. This can be particularly useful for live performance, where evolving MIDI provides variation without requiring you to manually redraw each pattern. Alternatively, use Riffer’s generation tools to explore unexpected directions during production, then capture and refine the ideas that work. You can start with defined notes, scales, and parameters or leave more room for variation. Either way, Riffer gives you generated material to react to while keeping the resulting MIDI editable and ready to shape around your music.
