At the heart of TWISTfm are two Yamaha OPL-3 YMF262 FM chips, the same legendary processors found in classic FM synthesizers and vintage computer soundcards. These chips provide eight independent voices, each capable of producing the metallic, evolving, and harmonically rich sounds FM synthesis is known for.

Unlike traditional FM synths, TWISTfm pairs each voice with an analog multimode filter, giving users the ability to sculpt tones in ways not possible with digital FM alone. The result is a unique fusion of digital clarity and analog warmth, perfect for creating anything from shimmering pads to growling basses.

Advanced filtering and tonal shaping

TWISTfm’s filtering section is inspired by some of the most revered analog designs, offering 15 distinct filter modes, including low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, phaser, and notch. The HEAT control introduces anything from subtle saturation to full analog distortion, adding warmth and character to any sound.

Users can also choose between two resonance profiles: LIQUID for smooth, organic resonance or MS20 for sharper, aggressive peaks. Digital control over resonance and cutoff allows for flexible modulation, making the filters highly responsive to dynamic playing techniques and automation.

TWISTfm features a powerful 128-step polyphonic sequencer with MIDI sync, allowing users to create complex patterns and evolving textures. The built-in arpeggiator offers multiple modes, skips, and ties, making it easy to generate intricate melodic sequences on the fly.

For seamless studio and live integration, TWISTfm includes USB MIDI, MIDI DIN I/O, and two external audio inputs for processing external sounds. With its intuitive interface, rotary encoder, and minimal menu diving, it provides a workflow that is both deep and immediate, catering to sound designers, live performers, and producers alike.
