Evolving the tone from the bright and snappy slabs, Leo Fender designed a ceramic MFD pickup to sound warmer and have a broader frequency response than the traditional single coils. G&L promise higher output ‘without any added noise’. They have also been called ‘Hot P-90s’ by others, so, if you like playing your amp just at ‘break-up’, you can achieve that at home with quieter volumes or drive your amp into the wall when it’s cranked.
You get a swamp ash body which is nice and lightweight, with a beautiful grain. Further exemplified by the orange gloss finish – It stands out from the traditional and will certainly turn heads and happily keep your back from giving in. You are afforded brilliant accuracy with the 18:1 gear ratio tuners that come as standard.
A medium ‘’C’’ Neck with a 9’’ radius promises a comfortable and familiar feel. The classic 25.5” scale of Leo’s designs give a great tension to the string giving that classic twang that is instantly recognisable, but with extra grit and warmth from these cleverly designed pickups. Do you play jazz? Fine. What about metal? It really does it all, well. The ASAT Tribute is reliable and won’t stop you achieving those tones. Leo wanted this to be the final word on the classic ‘52 slab and then took it someplace new.
Leo Fender moved on from his original company in ’65, took his designs and with George Fullerton formed G&L. Praised by musicians, the ASAT (Another Strat Another Tele) modernises what these guitars could be. Leo Fender himself said that these were the best instruments he ever made. These are top-tier guitars that a working musician can afford.
The tribute series has all the same electronic and hardware found in the USA models, so you are getting a premium guitar that will sound every bit as good as it can. G&L have a reputation for quality that is up there with the best of them, add a price point that is in reach for most and the Tribute series ASAT Classic almost starts to shimmer...
