Thermally Aged Timber

The thermally aged process involves heating the timber in a vacuum with a specific treatment that releases water and decomposes resin contained within the wood. Thermally aged timber is light in weight, hard, and stable, like a tonewood that has been dried for decades, resulting in a superb projection, louder sound, and an incredible response that vintage guitars are so well known for.

Quality Sitka Spruce & Mahogany Construction

With a thermally aged sitka spruce top, the Hummingbird Vintage delivers a broad dynamic range, a full-bodied low-end, and superb smooth sustain which are common characteristics of vintage guitars. In addition to its full-bodied vintage tonal character, its sitka spruce top also produces a versatile sound that will accommodate numerous different genres and playing techniques with ease. Sitka spruce yields crisp articulation and has a rich fullness of tone that retains clarity at all dynamic levels. The sitka spruce top is accompanied by mahogany back and sides, which provides players with a truly beautiful vintage tone blended with the highest quality that you would expect from a Gibson guitar. Mahogany produces a thick present mid-range and an earthy voice that is especially used in blues and bluegrass music. In addition to its superb tone, the choice of mahogany also offers a stunning grain pattern which added to the overall vintage appearance of the guitar.

Durable Mahogany Neck & Smooth Rosewood Fingerboard

Constructed from mahogany, the Hummingbird's neck provides plenty of resonance and offers a strong and sturdy play. Mahogany is commonly used to construct guitar necks as the wood responds greatly to many different playing techniques. The Hummingbird's neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard, providing players with a smooth and energetic playing experience and also produces warmth and a bright sparkling-sizzle that really shines through when using fingerpicking techniques. Sprinkled with mother of pearl parallelogram inlays, the rosewood fingerboard provides an elegant appearance and premium, high-end playability.

Square Shoulder Dreadnought

The Gibson Hummingbird Vintage features a square shoulder dreadnought body shape that projects a voice that will reach the back of the room within most venues, offering superb acoustic projection whilst maintaining overall tonal balance. The square shoulder dreadnought has been in a debate with its round shoulder dreadnought cousin for years. After many comparisons of sound and appearance between the two, the square shoulders not only offer a pleasing aesthetic but produces a 'boomy' voice with a little more volume than a round shoulder. The dreadnought body is designed for a player that can handle its size whilst still feeling comfortable when playing, ideal for those with a longer reach and more comfortable with bigger guitar body shapes.

To provide an eye-catching and authentic appearance, the Hummingbird Vintage has a delicately hand painted pickguard that features floral imagery and a stunning little hummingbird design, complemented by its exquisite heritage cherry sunburst finish. With period correct, Gotoh relic aged machineheads, traditional multi-stripe rosette and a hand rubbed VOS process, the Gibson Hummingbird Vintage offers an impressive sound and a breath taking appearance that projects its vintage-vibe perfectly.

Traditional Hand Scalloped X-Bracing

As with many of Gibson's acoustic range, the Hummingbird Vintage features traditional hand scalloped X-bracing. This specific type of bracing structure consists of two braces forming an 'X' shape across the soundboard which not only enhances the sound and offers a well-balanced tone, but also provides a reinforced stable and durable structure.
